Investigation launched after man dies in crash near Caernarfon
An investigation is underway after a man a man died in a crash near Caernarfon.
Officers were called shortly after 11am on Tuesday to a report of a single-vehicle collision on the A487 at the Cibyn/Llanrug roundabout which involved a 17 reg white Mazda 2.
The driver, 89-year-old George Wilson Stewart from Rhos-on-Sea, was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor by ambulance but sadly died of his injuries last night.
Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses.
He said: “I offer my heartfelt condolences to Mr Stewart’s family.
“Our investigation is ongoing to establish what happened and I am keen to speak to anybody who may have been travelling along the A4086 on the morning of Tuesday, April 4th and who may seen a white Mazda travelling towards the direction of Bangor, or anybody who may have dash cam footage to contact us.
“The vehicle is believed to have travelled to Pwllheli prior to the collision, so anyone travelling from Pwllheli towards the Caernarfon area on Tuesday morning, between 9am and 11am, who may have seen the vehicle being driven out of the ordinary are also asked to contact us.”
Mr Stewart’s family are now being supported by a specially trained Family Liaison Officer and the Coroner has been informed.
