An increased police presence is expected in Bangor over the next few days following the discovery of an industrial scale cannabis factory.

Last night, officers found the large operation hidden in an unused building on the city’s High Street.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of producing Class B drugs and are currently in custody while investigations continue.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing to secure the building and for Scottish Power to isolate the site.

Following the discovery, local police have challenged people who question the seriousness of cannabis production.

In a post on Facebook, officers from the north of Gwynedd said: “To the person about to comment: ‘What’s the harm in a bit of weed?’

“Every bag bought is a personal contribution towards: organised crime groups, violent crime, ASB, criminal exploitation and risk of fire and flood.

“We will continue to respond to information on suspected cannabis farms whenever we receive it.

“If you have concerns about drugs in your area, report via our website, call 101 or anonymously via CrimeStoppers.”
