The Holyhead lifeboat team was called out overnight to help two people on board a boat which had run aground.

The RNLI was alerted at 3.51am this morning (Wednesday April 27th) after the 11-metre vessel got stuck near the end of a breakwater.

Within twenty minutes of the call, the all-weather lifeboat Christopher Pearce was launched from Holyhead port, and headed to the location.

As the lifeboat approached the scene, HM Coastguard informed the team that the vessel had lifted clear of the reef.

For safety and welfare reasons, the lifeboat carried on to the location, and after checking all was well with the two people on board, the decision was made to escort them and their craft to the landing stage.

The lifeboat then returned to base, and was ready for any further calls by 5.15am.

Holyhead Coxswain Tony Price said: “Weather conditions were totally in favour of the casualty craft – with a flooding tide and moderate breeze from the east, which meant the vessel was able to be refloated.

“Huge thanks to all the volunteer crew for once again turning out in the early hours to help other people in trouble.”
