Health officials formally declare Llangefni 2 Sisters coronavirus outbreak over
Health officials have formally declared a coronavirus outbreak centred around an Anglesey chicken processing plant as being over.
A total of 217 positive tests for COVID-19 were recorded associated with the 2 Sisters factory in Llangefni, with cases peaking in June.
It led to the facility being closed temporarily and caused the delay of schools being reopened on the island.
At one stage, the Welsh Government even considered whether introducing local lockdown measures would be necessary, but decided against it.
Public Health Wales has declared the situation as closed after a prolong period with no further cases.
In a statement made this afternoon, Dr Robin Howe, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus outbreak response, said: “Following a recent multi-agency Outbreak Control Team, and as a result of no further cases associated with the 2 Sisters factory in Llangefni, Anglesey, the outbreak control team has taken the decision to declare the outbreak over.
“Public Health Wales would like to thank all those involved in supporting the response to this incident.
“Following an Outbreak Control Team meeting on 12 August, there continues to be no evidence of widespread transmission in the Wrexham community.
“Finally, there is no significant update on the previously reported incident in Ebbw Vale.”
