Elegant ‘Victorian Gentleman’s Residence’ in Anglesey to face planning decision
An elegant and spacious ‘Victorian gentleman’s residence’ with views towards the Eryri mountains and the Menai Strait, is to come before island planners over a proposed development.
When it was sold by auction in 2022, the modernised period villa Craig Selyf, on Telford Road, boasted features including a luxury interior swimming pool, a cinema room with surround-sound and a roof-top garden.
At the time, the Town and Country Property Auctioneer website had described the six-bedroomed home as an “elegant and extremely spacious Victorian Gentleman’s residence of character”.
Now, Anglesey County Council’s planners will consider a full application for the erection of three residential units together with the construction of a new vehicular access at the property.
The application is listed on the council planning portal as due to go to the planning committee.
The application has been made by Hayley Meek through the agent Russell Hughes Architects.
The application design and access statement says it is in support of a planning application for the erection of three residential apartment units on land at Craig Selyf.
The proposal stated how it “seeks to provide high-quality residential accommodation that responds positively to the character of the surrounding area whilst making efficient use of a sustainable residential site within the settlement boundary of Menai Bridge.
“The development has been carefully designed to respect neighbouring properties, enhance the local built environment, and contribute to the housing supply of the area.
“The scheme has been carefully designed to respect the character of the surrounding area, provide high-quality accommodation, and ensure safe and inclusive access for all users.”
It also noted that the site was situated on privately owned land with a gated secure access that will “remain as existing” and that parking would be provided.
Further details within the application also noted that “the proposed development seeks to create three, two-bedroom, residential units of high quality”.
“The proposal will consist of a lower level with access and parking via Chapel street, a higher ground level with access from Bridge Street, with a staircase leading up into two more units occupying the first and attic floor.”
