Great Orme goats to be ’rounded up’ to prevent problems on Llandudno streets

Llandudno’s famous Great Orme goats are set to be rounded up to prevent them from invading the town’s streets.

The animals made global headlines after they took over urban areas of the seaside town during the coronavirus lockdown period.

They have continued to make an appearance ever since, stopping traffic in the middle of the road and even having a scrap in the Asda car park.

However, with concerns expressed over road safety and damage to property, Conwy Council is looking to round-up those recently seen in the Craig y Don area to the Great Orme headland.

The news was revealed after the issue was raised with the local authority by Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders, who said some of the animals could also be rehomed.

The Conservative MS said: “While the Great Orme goats are a valued asset to Llandudno and our community we must recognise that their continued visits to urban areas of our town raises serious concerns, especially in relation to potential road safety and damage to residents property.

“Given this, I am thrilled to see that CCBC will be taking positive action to address this situation and will seek to rehome some of these animals in effort to deter the group from venturing from the Great Orme once again.

“Although I am aware that this may only be a temporary solution, I would assure constituents that I remain committed to liaising with the relevant organisations to also try and identify and deliver a long term plan.”
