An appeal has been made to landowners after a small rubbish fire spread to four cars in Gwynedd

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service have asked people to avoid controlled burning or the burning of waste.

It follows four crews being called to a fire in Cwm Y Glo at 1pm today.

Mike Owen, head of response for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We’re asking farmers and landowners to avoid undertaking controlled burning and residents to avoid burning waste to help to reduce the demand on firefighters and help them to stay safe during this difficult time.

“A small fire can spread so easily – on this occasion it appears an individual was burning rubbish in a container on some wasteland. The fire spread to four nearby vehicles.

Please don’t put unnecessary extra pressure on North Wales’ services. Let’s work together to fight coronavirus.”

The incident was also attended by North Wales Police. In a statement on the Rural Crime Team Twitter page, officers said: “Normal policing continues, despite the pandemic. Earlier we assisted the fire service with a fire in Cwm y Glo.

“Thankfully no one was seriously hurt, and the fire turned out to be accidental.”
