Elderly woman dies following house fire in Abergele

An elderly woman who was rescued from a fire at her home in Abergele has sadly died.

Firefighters from Abergele and Colwyn Bay were called to a property at Gorwel in the town shortly before 4pm yesterday afternoon.

The woman, who was believed to be in her 70s, was taken out of the property by police officers who were in the area and arrived quickly at the scene.

She was transferred to hospital, but sadly she later died.

The fire caused severe damage to the lounge of the house and smoke damage to other rooms.

Stuart Millington from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of this lady during this sad time.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation in conjunction with North Wales Police – our appeal to everyone is to take extra care in regards to their safety in the home.”
