Early investigations into Anglesey schools cyber attack ‘encouraging’, says council
Preliminary findings have allayed fears about the impact of a recent cyber attack that affected Anglesey’s secondary schools.
Further forensic analysis of the incident by external consultants will continue for a number of weeks and improvements made to ensure IT systems are as strong as possible.
Anglesey Council has set-up an incident management team to respond to the incident.
Chief Executive Annwen Morgan, said: “We’re grateful to our partners for the support received since this cyber incident was discovered last week.
“We will continue to liaise with both Welsh Government and the National Cyber Security Centre.
“The preliminary findings are encouraging. However, detailed forensic investigations will continue so that we can understand fully what has happened here and, more importantly, ascertain the scale of any possible data breach.”
She added: “We will soon be in a position to allow schools to access some of their IT systems, but the disruption will continue.
“All schools will remain open until the end of term, and I thank school staff for their continued support.”
The council said it would continue to keep the Information Commissioner’s Office informed of developments and co-operate fully with their investigations.
