Drivers urged to plan ahead as second phase of Menai Bridge repairs starts today
Work to ensure the Menai Suspension Bridge is restored in time for its 200th anniversary gets underway today (Monday, September 4.)
The second phase of repairs will see new permanent hangers installed, whilst the exterior of the bridge will be repainted.
Motorists are urged to plan ahead, however, the programme of works will not result in the full closure of the bridge, with traffic management measures to be implemented to reduce disruption for local residents.
A single lane closure will be in place from 7am on Monday to 3.30pm on Friday each week while the work takes place but will be lifted for weekends and bank holidays.
The Welsh Government said the timing is designed to maximise working shift times. Traffic lights will be in operation while the work is being carried out.
The traffic lights will be manually controlled during morning and afternoon peak periods to enable traffic to flow and reduce disruption as much as possible.
The full programme of work is expected to be completed by August 2025.
The current weight restriction of 7.5T for crossing the bridge will remain in place until all works have been completed.
