A driver who travelled 180 miles to North Wales claimed he wasn’t aware the Welsh coronavirus lockdown legislation.

The man was stopped by police in Capel Curig this afternoon after coming all the way from Milton Keynes.

He apologised to the officer and was told to return home.

The UK Government last week altered the travel restrictions in England to allow people to drive to places to carry out exercise, where as in Wales the rules have mostly remained the same.

North Wales Police has now issued a reminder of the regulations.

Members of the roads policing unit said: “We are reminding people that travelling into Wales for exercise or without a reasonable excuse is not permitted, and the sooner we can halt the spread of the virus the sooner we can welcome people back.”
