Double yellow lines painted on Snowdonia road hit by dangerous parking as traffic agency looks to tackle problems
Double yellow lines have been painted on a road in Snowdonia which has been beset by parking problems.
As visitors have flocked to North Wales after the lifting of lockdown restrictions, there have been frequent issues with people parking dangerously on the A5 in Ogwen.
It has led to vehicles being towed away as police and Gwynedd Council look to address the situation.
In a further development, Traffic Wales has sped up plans to paint double yellow lines on the road.
The Welsh Government agency said: “We’ve fast-tracked measures to begin to put double yellow lines on the A5 Ogwen to help keep road users safe.
“Please park, responsibly, safely & be considerate of others.
“Don’t park on double yellows, block emergency vehicle access or obstruct footways.”
In a separate development, it was recently announced that visitors climbing Wales’ highest mountain would be able to pre-book their parking spaces as part of a pilot designed to stamp out traffic issues.
The national park authority has launched a booking system for the Pen-y-Pass car park at the foot of Snowdon.
Available on weekends and bank holidays for the remainder of the summer, it is planned to support a wider review of parking and transport arrangements in Snowdonia.
