Plans for a new Costa coffee drive-through in Rhyl have been submitted to Denbighshire council.

The application to build the unit, on the town’s Marina Quay retail park, has been submitted by site owners Scarborough Development Group.

A separate application for signage associated with the “Costa coffee shop” has also been submitted to Denbighshire council.

The building’s seating area will face into the development and will be constructed of timber clad light steel.

In a covering letter attached to planning documents, Scarborough Development Group said the application is “updating” the appearance from reserved consent that was granted in November 2016.

It said: “SDG seeks consent for the erection of a single storey coffee shop with drive through facility and associated landscaping, servicing and parking.

“Whilst it is a full planning application, it effectively seeks to update the details of appearance, layout and scale for an approved drive-through restaurant.”

In a bid to lessen the impact on the environment, the applicant claims the building will be encouraged to “use where appropriate environmentally friendly, energy efficient freezers and lighting, a heat recovery system from the freezer condensers and solar panels fitted on the roof”.

Fifteen car parking spaces, including two disabled bays, will sit to the front of the new store.

The drive-through kiosk will be on the Wellington Road side of the building, which will sit to the south-east of the Aldi store.

The design and access statement concludes: “The proposed development is located within the existing Marina Quay site and will add to the already vibrant mix of uses available there.

“With excellent pedestrian links and it’s close proximity to the town centre, this will create a highly sustainable development continuing the regeneration of the locality.”
