Former Village Chapel and Vestry in Wales to be Converted into New Home

A former village chapel and vestry could soon be converted into a new home.
Mr Nigel Heckman of St Asaph has applied to Denbighshire’s planning department, seeking permission to convert the former chapel at Eglwys Methodist Church in Tremeirchion.
The chapel has been out of use for over seven years when it stopped being used for worship.
If Mr Heckman is granted planning permission, the chapel will remain untouched, but the vestry will be reduced in size and rebuilt using the existing stone walls and clad in cedar.
A planning statement reads, “The project involves the conversion of an existing chapel building and the adjacent vestry into a single dwelling. The site – notwithstanding the need to construct a link corridor/sun room between the two buildings – will remain very much as it is now, including lawn areas and bushes.
“Due to these very limited changes to the site, there will be no adverse impact on the site in terms of the natural habitat.”
The chapel’s slate pitched roof will remain, but the vestry’s roof will be altered to fit the new dimensions using matching slate.
Some of the building’s windows will be retained and repaired, others replaced, and French doors fitted. A new boundary timber fence will also be erected, and parking will also be included.
Neighbours have not been consulted about the proposals.
The plans will likely be discussed at a future Denbighshire planning committee meeting at the council’s Ruthin County Hall HQ.
