Denbighshire Council to outline how it plans to become a “net carbon zero” by 2030
A council will host a public meeting to discuss climate change and the “ecological emergency” tonight (Tuesday Feb 25).
Denbighshire Council will outline how it plans to become a “net carbon zero and ecologically positive council” by 2030.
There will be presentations on carbon reduction, absorption and on biodiversity, followed by a question and answer sessions.
Last month members of Extinction Rebellion and Friends and Friends of the Earth attended the full council to lobby for a council tax increase of 0.3% to fund green policies. Councillors voted the plan down.
Denbighshire has already made moves to hit the target. All plastic cups will be removed from water machines and there has been a commitment to remove vending machines from the three main council offices in Rhyl, Denbigh and Ruthin.
A task and finish group will continue looking into ways the council can reduce waste and its carbon emissions over the next 12 months.
Tonights meeting is being held at County Hall, Ruthin at 6pm.
