Wetherspoons in North Wales granted permission for new beer garden

A North Wales Wetherspoons has been given permission to build a new beer garden. Conwy County Council’s planning committee granted permission for the beer garden at The Picture House on Princes Drive, Colwyn Bay at a Bodlondeb planning committee meeting this week.
The beer garden will be built on vacant land next to the building, which previously was considered a brownfield site, and consequently the chain needed permission for a change of use of the land. The beer garden will feature a covered area with stalls, heat lamps, and tables and chairs. A fenced area would include a separate section for bins and recycling.
Councillors were informed that Colwyn Bay Town Council didn’t object to the plans, and there was no opposition following a public consultation. The beer garden’s use will reflect the pub’s opening hours. The Picture House is currently open Monday to Friday 8am – 12am; Saturday 8am – 1am, and Sunday and bank holidays 8am – 12am.
The committee heard how the applicant is investigating the use of soakaways to improve surface water drainage. Cllr Nia Owen proposed that the committee backed the plans. This proposal was seconded by Cllr Gwennol Ellis, and the committee voted unanimously in favour of the application.
