Plans unveiled for all-weather football pitch at Welsh secondary school in Penrhyn Bay

Plans for an all-weather football pitch at a Welsh secondary school in Penrhyn Bay have been unveiled.
Conwy’s education department has applied to its own planning department, seeking permission for an all-weather artificial grass pitch at Ysgol y Creuddyn on Derwen Lane.
The planning application includes six flood lights, 2-metre high earthed mounds with 1.5m acoustic screens at the northern and eastern sides of the pitch, perimeter fencing, and storage space.
The pitch also includes a modular changing pavilion with two changing rooms and private showers and toilets.
The facilities will also include three-person changing room for match officials with showers and toilets, a community room, kitchenette, and a spectator area.
If granted planning permission, the pitch will be built on fields behind the school.
Last week, speaking before a public meeting on the issue, Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders revealed many residents living near the school were against the plans for the synthetic pitch.
Mrs Finch-Saunders said locals were concerned about potential noise, light pollution, and anti-social behaviour.
But not all residents are against the plans.
Meirion Williams sent a letter of support to the council.
“I live at The Close (in) Penrhyn Bay, and my house is overlooking the fields of Ysgol y Creuddyn. There’s only the footpath between my house and back garden and the fields of Creuddyn,” the letter read.
“I know it might affect my views, but only if I’m looking out my first-floor bedroom.
“The school was built before my house was built , and I accept the school has to modernise over the years, which it has with the building of the leisure centre and the extensions of classrooms that have taken place and will take place in the future.”
The letter added: “I also work at Ysgol y Creuddyn in the technology department and on duty during dinnertime. I’m aware that when it rains the fields do get waterlogged – there is only a small tarmac area where the kids can play.”
The plans will be debated by councillors at a future planning committee meeting at the council’s Bodlondeb HQ.
