Llandudno’s Mostyn Street Could Soon Have New Food Hall in Town Centre

Llandudno’s Mostyn Street could soon have a new food hall in the town centre.
Mostyn Estates has applied to Conwy’s planning department, seeking permission to convert the former Marks & Spencer store at 61 Mostyn Street into a mixed-use building.
If it gets the go-ahead, the building will include a café, food and beverage unit, and indoor leisure.
Whilst the application states the new site will create employment, it doesn’t reveal how many jobs or what type.
The application, though, seeks permission to open between 8 am to 12 am every day.
Conwy’s head of economic development Ellen Edwards wrote in support of the application.
She said, “As far as economic development and regeneration are concerned, this development in the centre of Llandudno has our support and forms very high within the recent regeneration plan for Llandudno.
“What they are proposing also is very much aligned to our economic growth strategy, our regional regeneration plan, and the Welsh Government’s recent town centres position statement, which sets out the challenges faced by town centres and how we must help to reinvigorate them.”
In her letter, Ms Edwards also revealed applying for three planning use classes would give flexibility to maximise the appeal of the property.
The prime Mostyn Street site closed in March 2022 after more than 80 years on Llandudno’s high street, following the satellite clothes store next door but one closing in 2018.
But Marks moved to Parc Llandudno last year where the popular brand has thrived since at the former Debenhams store – with M&S reporting their sales are up by 30%.
The planning application will likely be debated by councillors at a future planning committee meeting at Bodlondeb.
