Llandudno dog cafe owner to celebrate planning approval with doggy birthday parties

The owner of a Llandudno dog café says he will celebrate being given permission to serve coffee and cake by holding dog birthday parties.

Dudley and George’s was initially refused planning permission in May to operate as a ‘dog café’ by Conwy’s planning officers.

While the shop at 127 Mostyn Street was permitted to sell both human homeware and dog products, the café side of the business had to be put on hold.

Jason Pinnick applied to Conwy County Council’s planning committee for a mixed-use business but was refused due to planning officers being unhappy with the application, and consequently the shop could only serve drinks as takeaways.

But Jason will now be allowed to open his dog café between 8am and 8pm every day.

Jason said he was delighted with the decision and hoped to soon be opening for a variety of dog events – including birthday parties with dog ice cream.

“Basically, we put the application back in with about 100 pages of supporting documentation and technical jargon and references to all sorts of planning obscurity,” he said.

“It’s gone through this week so I’m very happy about that. I’m a bit annoyed that I had to spend a couple of thousand pounds getting it through, especially this time of year, but onwards and upwards as they say.

“We are now a mixed-use business and a café as well. We weren’t allowed to open as a café before.

“We were only allowed to give takeaway drinks, but now we can operate as a dog café and have people sit in and have coffee and cake.

“We’ve got things coming up like dog birthday parties, group meetings for dog therapy sessions, and puppy socialisation classes.

“We couldn’t do any of that before because we couldn’t serve anyone a coffee. It opens up half the business that we haven’t been able to do.

“We are really happy. I’ve been super stressed over the last few months.”
