Conwy Leader Replaces Cabinet Member Stepping Down

North Wales news and information

Conwy’s leader has replaced a cabinet member who has stepped down.
Leader Cllr Charlie McCoubrey has replaced cabinet member for culture, governance, and IT Cllr Aaron Wynne with former leader Cllr Dilwyn Roberts.
Cllr Roberts was the leader of the authority for nine years until May 2017 when he stepped down then aged 66.
Both Cllr Wynne and Cllr Roberts represent Plaid Cymru.
Cllr McCoubrey says Cllr Wynne wants to concentrate on his education but welcomed the former leader into the role.
In a statement, Cllr McCoubrey commented: “I am writing to let you know that Cllr Aaron has decided to step down from cabinet to enable him to focus on his final year at university.
“He has been an incredibly hard working and valued cabinet member, and I would like to record my heartfelt thanks for everything that he has done, and I am sure that we all wish him every success in his onward endeavours.
“I am delighted to announce that Cllr Dilwyn has agreed to replace Aaron on cabinet taking over his existing portfolio, and he will be shadowing Aaron before he leaves at the end of this month.
He added: “Dilwyn brings to cabinet a huge amount of experience and great awareness of how the council operates as a whole which will be invaluable as we look to meet the challenges ahead, and I very much look forward to working alongside him.”
Cllr Wynne said he would now concentrate on his education.
“I need to concentrate on my studies and will be stepping down from cabinet,” he said.
“The role of cabinet member is a demanding one that needs full-time attention, which I’ll be unable to provide in the coming months. I’ve discussed this with the leader, and I will be stepping down as Cabinet Member for Culture, Governance and IT at the end of September.”
He added: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with my fellow Cabinet Members and officers over the last two and a half years, and I will continue to work hard on behalf of residents in Llanrwst a Llanddoged.”
