£10m Grant Awarded to Venue Cymru for Auditorium and Foyer Improvements

North Wales news and information

Venue Cymru will consider auditorium and foyer improvements after being given a £10m grant.
The Llandudno theatre has been awarded the huge sum as part of the UK Government’s Levelling-Up Fund.
The UK Government announced before Christmas it had set aside £100m for levelling-up culture projects.
The Government has said it has prioritised areas that hadn’t received funding in the past.
A spokeswoman for the council-owned venue confirmed that the plans for the money are not yet finalised.
“The Venue Cymru element of last year’s bid to the Levelling-Up Fund focused on enhancements to the arts and creative offer at Venue Cymru,” she said.
“Following this week’s announcement of a £10m award, the project team will revisit the original proposals to finalise which aspects will be progressed.
“Under consideration are improvements to the auditorium and foyer spaces to enhance the visitor experience and to provide facilities for the creative industries.”
The council says Venue Cymru delivers an economic benefit of around £30m a year to the local economy.
Last week Conwy’s leader Cllr Charlie McCoubrey said: “We are delighted Venue Cymru’s plans to deliver enhanced facilities have been recognised by UK Government as a nationally significant project.
“Arts and culture are of huge importance in delivering a positive economic impact and in supporting the well-being of our communities.”
