Armed police called to reports of man with hammer in Abergele

Armed police were called to reports of a man who was believed to be in possession of a hammer in Abergele.

Members of the Alliance Armed Policing Unit, which covers Cheshire and North Wales, said they quickly attended the scene after receiving a 999 call.

Fortunately the man was detained without incident through the use of a taser and officers speaking to him.

Posting on Twitter this morning, they said no weapon was found and he was referred for mental health support after sharing that he was experiencing suicidal thoughts.

North Wales Police has been asked for further details.
