RAF Valley noise warning as naval helicopter training on until midnight
Anglesey residents are being warned it might be a little noisier than usual in the area around the RAF Valley – just for a short time.
Royal Navy helicopters are visiting the air base to take part in night flight training.
It is expected the flying will finish “no later than midnight”, an RAF Valley spokesperson confirmed
The base had encouraged members of the public to spot the Merlin and Wildcat helicopters from the “spotters” car park near the base.
An RAF Valley post on Facebook yesterday reads: “Navy Night Flying notice: A ‘heads-up’ to our followers and especially our closest neighbours, that it might be a little noisier than usual around Valley this evening and tomorrow night.
“The Navy have come to join us to do some much needed night flying training – which will last until tomorrow [Wednesday] evening.
“The flying serials won’t go on beyond midnight and we thank our closest neighbours for their forbearance here.
“If you are in or around our ‘Spotters’ car park’ today, then do take a look. The Merlins and Wildcats are impressive aircraft.”
The Wildcat is a maritime attack helicopter, the latest generation of multi-role helicopter, specifically obtained for frigates and destroyers of the Royal Navy.
The Royal Navy’s Merlin helicopters are use for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare as well as troop carrying, casualty evacuation and medium lift and search and rescue duties
