Plans for caravan site on former cricket pitch approved

Proposals to convert an Anglesey cricket pitch into a site for touring caravans have been approved by planners.

Anglesey Council’s planning department had received the application covering what was until recently the home of Bodedern Cricket Club, on land belonging to the Presaddfed Estate on the outskirts of the village.

Covering a total of 2.4 acres, the now approved plans will see the replacement of the Cricket Pavilion with a purpose built amenity unit and new on-site wildlife pond.

Formed in 1947 and the oldest club on Anglesey, Bodedern was a mainstay of the north Wales cricketing scene before playing its last innings in 2018.

The planning statement noted: “The proposal is to enable the estate to diversify and provide a small tourism facility for 10 touring units on land which was previously used as a Cricket Ground. This use has recenty ceased.

“This proposal will enable the estate to diversify, assist the viability of the estate and assist with the upkeep and maintenance of the Hall which is a Grade II listed building.

“The proposed Touring Park will provide high quality facilities for people with motor homes and touring caravans who are visiting Anglesey and the north Wales region.

“It will encourage them to stay in the area, and visit other attractions and facilities thus boosting the local economy – with visitors staying for both short term weekend breaks and weekly holidays whilst they enjoy Anglesey, and what its visitor attractions have to offer.”
