Ysbyty Gwynedd has seen a drop in the number of coronavirus patients being treated after an outbreak at the hospital.

As of this morning, there were 39 patients with Covid-19 at the Bangor hospital, 17 of whom caught the infection in hospital.

It represents a decrease in the overall total of 63 Covid patients, including 36 who acquired it in hospital, which was reported last week.

However most planned surgery remains suspended as Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board looks to keep the outbreak contained.

Alyson Constantine, acute care director at Ysbyty Gwynedd, said: “Many of these patients have been receiving care for more than 15 days and are recovering.

“The majority of planned surgery is still postponed at the hospital, however urgent day case surgery is continuing.

“A small number of patients who require an inpatient bed are also being offered their procedure at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

“Please continue to attend your appointments unless notified otherwise, remember to wear your mask, use the available hand sanitiser on arrival and only have someone accompany you for your appointment if necessary.

“If you are unable to attend an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible.”
