SLUGS have been blamed for putting a set of traffic lights in Wrexham out of action.
It’s believed the slimy intruders crawled inside the pedestrian crossing near Rhosddu Park early last month, causing major damage to the control board.
Local councillor Marc Jones said the issue had been raised with Wrexham Council because of the risk to people trying to cross Rhosddu Road, but had not yet been fixed.
However, he said it was understood repairs would be carried out in the near future following the delivery of replacement parts.
Posting on Facebook, he said: “The pedestrian crossing on Rhosddu Road has been out of action since the start of December.
“I’ve been chasing the council to repair it because it’s such a busy road for people to cross safely.
“The controller was seriously damaged by slugs and the council was unable to complete all the repairs before the Christmas break.
“I’m told a new power supply has been ordered for the site and repairs should be complete very soon.”
Similar cases have previously been reported in other parts of the UK where slugs have caused traffic lights to short circuit.
In 2016, Transport for Greater Manchester apologised after the molluscs caused havoc on the A580 in Walkden.
Wrexham Council has been asked to comment.
