A woman has been seriously injured following a crash near Barmouth last night.

Police were called at 8.10pm on Sunday to a report of a one-vehicle collision on the A496 which involved a blue-coloured VW Golf.

The car had travelled from the direction of Barmouth towards Dolgellau and the collision took place by the temporary traffic lights in an area known as the Glandwr Straight.

A 27-year-old local woman, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd by ambulance but has since been transferred to hospital in Stoke with life threatening injuries.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses.

He said: “We know the VW Golf had travelled from the direction of Barmouth towards Dolgellau so I am appealing to anybody who may have seen it being driven prior to the collision to contact us.

“I’m also urging anybody who may have dash cam footage or private CCTV which may have captured the car being driven to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“A woman has sustained serious, life threatening injuries and we urgently need to find out what happened.”

Anybody who may be able to assist with the ongoing investigation is urged to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit via the live webchat or by calling 101 quoting reference number 21000757951.
