A Pwllheli woman has been arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of assaulting four police officers.

Police, having been called to disturbance in the town yesterday afternoon, sought to arrest the 24-year-old involved.

During their attempts, she bit one officer and assaulted two others by pushing and striking them, causing minor injuries.

She was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, where she then assaulted an officer by coughing and spitting at them while claiming to have Covid-19.

All of the officers remained on duty and continued to serve their communities. The officers are being supported by local managers and the Police Federation.

The woman has subsequently been arrested for ten offences, including public order offences, four assaults against emergency workers and breach of COVID-19 restrictions.

Chief Inspector Mark Armstrong, County Chief Inspector for Gwynedd said “This disgusting behaviour at such a difficult time for everyone will not be tolerated and we will take firm action .

“Assaulting police officers and emergency service workers, is simply not acceptable, and in this current environment regarding COVID, to potentially have to remove officers from the frontline, and to lose the service that those officers bring to their communities, as we seek to ensure that we are able to respond to many evolving challenges, beggars belief.

“No emergency service worker comes to work to be assaulted, and to spit at officers, going about their roles, is absolutely outrageous behaviour, and behaviour that I hope that courts will take a dim view of.”
