Union claims 2 Sisters staff told they won’t receive full pay during factory’s closure due to coronavirus outbreak
A union has claimed that staff at an Anglesey poultry processing plant have been told they receive fully pay during its closure caused by a coronavirus outbreak.
Public Health Wales is now reporting that 75 staff members at the 2 Sisters factory in Llangefni have tested positive for COVID-19.
Officials also warned that the number could increase as more tests are carried out after the site’s owners announced it would shutdown as employees self isolate for 14 days.
The company has also sparked anger after Unite the Union claimed staff were told they would not be fully paid during the closure.
In a tweet, the union described the move as “unacceptable”.
This is unacceptable. Our members at @2SFGofficial site in Llangefni were made to work through a COVID19 outbreak and have now been told they will not receive full pay whilst the factory is closed down. Unite is doing everything to fight for our members. https://t.co/zaM3A2BKq3

The outbreak has also had wider implications after it was announced that Anglesey schools would not be reopening as planned at the end of this month amid concerns over the spread of the virus on the island.
Meanwhile, the First Minister of Wales said he would not review the two metre social distancing rule in place in the country until more was understood about outbreaks at two sites in the region, including 2 Sisters and Rowan Foods in Wrexham.
