Two women from Rhyl arrested over alleged sharing of sexual offence victim’s details
Two women from Rhyl have been arrested over allegations they shared details regarding the victim of a sexual offence on social media.
The pair, aged 30 and 22, were taken into custody today in relation to an alleged breach of Section 1 of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992.
It states that after an allegation of a sexual or human trafficking offence is made, no matter relating to that victim / alleged victim can be published during their lifetime if it is likely to lead members of the public to identify them.
Such information includes: their name, address, the identity of any educational establishment they may attend, the identity of any place of work, or any still or moving image of them.
Detective Inspector Elfyn Hughes said: “This is a timely opportunity to remind all social media users that the law surrounding anonymity applies to everyone, not just journalists, and when people post or comment on social media, they should be mindful of the legal implications of such publication.”
