Two women have died following a serious crash in Gwynedd this afternoon, police have confirmed.

Shortly after 3.30pm, emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a red Volkswagen Polo and a rigid flatbed yellow lorry on the A487 between Gardolbenmaen and Penmorfa.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, both the woman driving the Polo and her passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

He said: “Sadly this is being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision and our thoughts remain with the family of those who died. They will now be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.

“I am urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who was travelling along the A487 just prior to the collision and who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

“We now need to piece together what happened, so anybody who has information that could assist with the investigation is asked to contact us urgently.”

The road remains closed this time.

Anybody with information or dash cam footage is asked to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or via the live web chat quoting incident number Y100773.
