A shoplifting duo were caught by police yesterday after going on a “supermarket sweep” across North Wales.

Officers in Denbighshire stopped the pair outside a local store after they made off with £800 worth of goods in total.

They spent the night in custody and were later charged.

Police also decided that the fresh food which was taken should be donated to a local foodbank rather than be allowed to go to waste.

In a pun-filled post on Facebook, they said: “Having been on a Supermarket Sweep across the north Wales area yesterday, Denbighshire Coastal officers caught up with a couple of light fingered individuals outside a local store.

“Whilst we fully support the idea of ‘kicking the habit’ hopefully they’ll be a bit ‘clearer eyed’ this morning, after a relaxing night at Chateau de Custody with a Popty Ping dinner thrown in.

“After such a ‘close shave’, we couldn’t let the fresh food go to waste – donation to local foodbank made – after all, ‘Every Little Helps’.”
