Police have appealed for information over a stolen Landrover and trailers which were trashed and daubed with messages telling tourists to “go home” amid fears over the spread of the coronavirus.

The Freelander vehicle and two trailers were taken from Bala Industrial Estate on March 22 and later used to block the entrance to the car park at Llyn Tegid.

They were also painted with the words “Go Home Idiots Covid-19”.

Pictures of the blockade appeared in national newspapers at a time when anger over visitors to North Wales was at its peak.

The message was largely well received with some speculating the person responsible had used their own vehicle, but it has now been revealed the car and trailers were taken illegally.

Officers from North Wales Police’s Gwynedd South policing team said: “Did you see a Freelander with 2 trailers being stolen on 22/3/20 from Bala industrial estate and then being used as a blockade to Bala Lake car park.

“The vehicle and trailers were damaged and the words ‘Go Home Idiots Covid 19’ painted on them. Call us ref 20000176514.”
