A man who stole a Christmas tree from a forest in North Wales has been made to pay compensation to a conservation trust.

Last week, North.Wales reported on the incident where a large tree was pictured being taken from Clocaenog Forest, near Ruthin, on the roof of a car.

Officers put the thief on their naughty list after they were caught on trail cameras dotted around the site last Monday.

Members of North Wales Police’s rural crime team have provided an updated on the case after bringing their investigations to a conclusion.

In a post on Facebook, they said: “Our tree thief has today been dealt with via a Community Resolution after discussion with Natural Resources Wales.

“He has had to pay suitable compensation which has now been donated to the Red Squirrel Conservation Trust at Cloceanog where he stole the tree.”
The Clocaenog Red Squirrels Trust was formed in 2018 to help protect the small population of red squirrels in Clocaenog Forest.
The trust’s membership consists of local residents and people from surrounding areas.
Its volunteers are in the forest every week carrying out a range of practical activities that are all linked to supporting red squirrel conservation.

They include monitoring the 80 trail cameras around the forest and ensuring feeder boxes are kept topped up.
