New CCTV cameras installed in Colwyn Bay in bid to prevent crime

North Wales news and information

New CCTV cameras have been installed across Colwyn Bay in a bid to prevent crime.

Extra surveillance has been put in place after Conwy Council, the North Wales Police and the Bay of Colwyn Town Council secured funding from the UK Government’s Safer Streets Fund.

The new cameras will be monitored 24/7 to target serious crime, criminal damage, anti-social behaviour, graffiti, littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping.

Councillor Geoff Stewart, Conwy’s cabinet member for environment and neighbourhood, said: “Our partnership approach and the innovation from our community safety and public protection CCTV teams is proving a vital part of Conwy’s commitment and drive to ensure residents and visitors across the county are safe and feel safe.”

Peter Brown, head of regulatory services at Conwy Council, said: “The continuing support of county councillors and town councils in supporting CCTV projects, and maintaining and updating the public space cameras, is key in preventing and detecting crime and anti-social behaviour while providing reassurance to our communities.”

He added: “Conwy is opening up its CCTV service to other interested parties that would like to make use of the service.

“If your business or organisation would like to find out more please email cctv@conwy.gov.uk ”

Councillor Hannah Fleet, town mayor for Bay of Colwyn, said: “I welcome the addition of these cameras to our CCTV provision.

“They will help our residents to feel secure and to help us keep our streets, play areas and beachfront welcoming and clean for all.”

Locations for the new cameras include:

  • Alleyway at Station Road, Penrhyn Road
  • Seaview Road/Princes Drive
  • Glyn Estate – Groes Road, children’s play area
  • Porth Eirias Beach
  • Queens Drive, Queens Gardens
