A man who has been wanted by police for almost four years was caught in Colwyn Bay with suspected Class A drugs.

Members of North Wales Police’s Intercept Team were in the town on Friday afternoon when they saw a man who appeared keen to avoid them.

He quickly changed direction and was acting suspiciously, leading to officers carry out a stop and search under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

He then gave false details before trying to escape, but was met by two other officers from the unit which was set up to clamp down on organised crime and drug gangs in the region.

Officers said: “Once detained a further search located a quantity of suspected Class A drugs, hidden in a place where he thought we wouldn’t find them.

“He was arrested in order to help us with our enquiries…still not forthcoming with his correct details.

“Upon arrival at custody he thought then may be the time assist us by providing his correct details, the hidden secret here being that he had been wanted for coming up to four years for failing to attend crown court in Greater Manchester.

“The male has since been released under investigation for a number of offences within north Wales and got to explain his evasive behaviour before the court on Saturday morning.”
