Gwynedd school plays its part in battle against coronavirus by printing visors
A Gwynedd school has been playing its part in battling the Coronavirus pandemic thanks to the latest 3D printing technology.
The move has seen care home staff in the Bala area receive a supply of special visors thanks to pupils and teachers at Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn who have been producing new safety visors.
The idea was the brainchild of Ilan Davies, a former pupil of the school, who works for a company called CREO Medical that develops medical devices.
Through working with Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn Headteacher Bethan Emyr, the company have bought many 3D machines to be located in the school especially for this work.
Ilan said: “It’s good to be able and do something practical in response with this crisis.
“The school will be able to keep most of these machines after the crisis, and it’s a good chance for the children and teachers to learn about this technology, and help the community at the same time.”
Rhian Jarvis, a Community Care Supervisor for Gwynedd Council in the Bala area said that they were very grateful to receive the visors.
“We can use the visors like an extra step if needed,” she said.
“The staff are happy and comfortable with them, and it’s good to see they’re so ready to continue to care at this difficult time.”
Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Care said: “It’s wonderful to see the community efforts and the obvious desire to help within our towns and villages.
“This example from the Bala area is similar to those we are seeing in communities right across Gwynedd and I’d like to thank all those involved who are making such an important contribution.”
A lot of the visors have been shared for free to local hospitals, as well as care workers, but Ilan is very willing to accept more orders.
At the moment he could supply around 50 per week, and he can be contacted on 07867 946725.
