Footage shows controlled explosion on Anglesey beach after unexploded WW2 device discovered
A controlled explosion has been carried out on a beach on Anglesey after the discovery of an unexploded WW2 device.
The device was spotted by a member of a Scottish coastguard team who was walking along Traeth Llandwyn, near Newborough, yesterday afternoon.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was called to the scene along with, members of the Rhosneigr and Bangor Coastguard Rescue Teams and officers from North Wales Police, with a cordon set up to protect the public.
The EOD confirmed it as an item of unexploded WW2 ordnance and carried out a controlled detonation.
Sharing images and video of the incident on Facebook, members of the Rhosneigr coastguard team said: “A few photos of today’s tasking to Newborough beach to check out possible washed up ordnance found by a member of a Scottish coastguard team.
“The ordnance was confirmed by the EOD as being ordnance from WW2 and a controlled detonation was carried out by the EOD upon their arrival on scene.
“If you ever come across any object that you may think as being ordnance then please make sure you don’t touch it and immediately dial 999 and ask for the coastguards.”
