Denbighshire Council have fenced off an empty building in Denbigh following its partial collapse.

The privately owned property known as Gwasg Gee on Chapel Street has been reported as a potentially dangerous structure.

Gwasg Gee was an important printing works in the 19th century and stayed open until 2001, at which time it was the oldest surviving example in Wales.

Structural engineers have been carrying out surveys on the site after a partial collapse was reported during the early hours of Monday morning.

Temporary fencing has already been erected on the road next to the building whilst further investigations of the building take place and conversations continue with the property owner.

The council said: “Part of Chapel Street has been cornered off until the council receives further instruction from the structural engineer who is waiting for a drone and pilot to provide further information.

“Public should avoid approaching the building and avoid removing the temporary fencing surrounding it.

“The council will continue to work with the property owner and structural engineers to ensure remedial works are undertaken as soon as possible to make the building safe.”
