Accessibility at a Llandudno hospice could soon be improved following the announcement of plans to redevelop the main building.
St David’s Hospice has applied to Conwy County Council’s planning department seeking permission to demolish and rebuild its front entrance.
The new entrance at the hospice on Abbey Road will lead to the day therapy area and cafe.
There will also be an extension to a fundraising area.
In the planning application, the hospice said the reason for the work was to better insulate the building and to make it more accessible.
“The current entrance is glazed and poorly detailed, causing thermal bridging,” the planning application reads.
“Accessibility needs improving. There are two main entrances into the building which causes confusion.
“The intent is to have one clear main entrance, which is fully insulated and fit for purpose.
“The small extension to the fundraising area is proposed to enable access directly from the upper floor to fundraising and enable access to the car park to assist with loading and unloading event merchandise.”
St David’s Hospice is a local charity providing hospice care to adult patients across Conwy, Gwynedd, and Anglesey.
The hospice provides free, high-quality, and specialist palliative care to patients with life limiting illnesses and their family and carers.
The charity costs around £5m a year to run.
The planning application will now likely go before Conwy’s planning committee for debate at a future meeting.
