A man has been jailed for six months after deliberately coughing and spitting at a police officer.

Ricky Jeffs, 39, from Colwyn Bay was sentenced to 26 weeks at Mold Crown Court after he was convicted of assaulting a police officer on April 24th.

Chief Inspector Owain Llewellyn said: “Coughing and spitting deliberately is despicable. We welcome this sentence and hope it deters others from behaving in this disgusting way.”

“Police officers and staff are no different from other members of the public in that they have families that they want to keep safe during this difficult time, so to be assaulted in this deplorable manner has huge consequences.”

“I want to publicly thank my team for putting themselves in positions of risk on a daily basis to keep the communities they police safe. I am also grateful for the ongoing support of the vast majority of the public in our joint effort to tackle Covid19.”
