A body found in the sea off Anglesey has been confirmed as being that of a man who went missing last week.

A search was launched after the man, named as Gareth Arnold by police, was last seen in the South Stack area of Holyhead, near to Elin’s Tower, at around 4.30pm last Wednesday afternoon.

It led to officers making an appeal for witnesses to come forward later in the week as concerns for his wellbeing grew.

However, police on the island have sadly confirmed that his body was found in the water at Silver Bay, near Rhoscolyn, on Saturday afternoon.

Officers said: “The man has now formally been identified as 44-year-old Gareth, who we circulated as missing towards the end of last week. There are thought to be no suspicious circumstances.

“Our deepest condolences remain with Gareth’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Thank you to partner agencies, volunteers and members of the public who assisted in our searches for Gareth.”
