PLANS have been unveiled which could see a new McDonald’s restaurant and drive thru created in Wrexham.
The fast food chain wants to open a new branch on part of a car park on the Plas Coch Retail Park, which currently serves Argos and The Range.
An application has been submitted to Wrexham Council outlining the proposals, which the company said would result in the creation of 65 jobs, both full and part time.
Some concerns have been raised about parking and road safety in advance of the scheme being put forward as it would result in the loss of 39 spaces.
However, representatives have insisted there are no safety issues which need to be addressed.
In a statement accompanying the plans, they said: “It is proposed to redevelop the site to provide a 440 square metre two storey McDonald’s restaurant with side-by-side drive thru facilities.
“The dining area would be 97 square metres with 100 seats.
“The existing retail park car park comprises of a total of 235 parking spaces.
“It is concluded that the accident records do not indicate any highway safety issues on the existing network, which need to be addressed as part of this planning application.
“Access to the proposed restaurant would be via the southern arm of the retail park roundabout which currently serves the Argos/Iceland/Range.
“There would be 196 spaces to serve the existing retail units and the McDonald’s restaurant.”
It is proposed that the restaurant will open 24 hours a day from Monday to Sunday with up to 20 staff on site at any one time.
If the plans are approved, it is expected the branch will be completed by 2021.
The town already has one McDonald’s based on Regent Street, but it does not have a drive thru with the nearest located in Chirk.
The local authority is expected to make a decision on the scheme at a later date.
