Reports of “irresponsible and dangerous behaviour” in a coastal area of Gwynedd have led to a plea from police for people to be more respectful.

North Wales Police and Gwynedd Council are reminding the public to be considerate after a string of incidents on the Llŷn Peninsula.

It has included people drinking alcohol and then going swimming, using abusive language and in some cases minor damage being caused to property.

There have also been complaints in relation to inconsiderate parking.

Gwynedd Chief Inspector Llinos Davies said: “We continue to work with partners over the summer to keep members of the public safe.

“We very much want people to go out and enjoy the sunshine and appreciate the spectacular coastline but please do so in a respectful, responsible and law-abiding manner.

“The vast majority of people in the area behave appropriately and in accordance with regulations. However, it is sad to see a small minority of people ruining it for others.

“I would also ask those visiting these locations to be considerate of how they park and ensure there is enough space for large emergency vehicles to pass.

“Do not consider driving or going for a swim if you have been consuming alcohol during the day.

“Anti-social behaviour and criminality has a detrimental impact on our communities, and we will continue to work with our partners to proactively patrol key areas to prevent such activity”.

Gwynedd Council Leader, Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn said: “Over the summer break I hope people have the chance to relax and enjoy some of our wonderful beaches and other local beauty spots.

“Throughout this extremely busy period, our staff will be on duty and will be working with our partners from the emergency services and other organisations to keep the public safe.

“As individuals we can all play our part by behaving responsibly. Whatever your plans, please respect our local environment and our communities.

“Take your litter home, plan ahead and book your accommodation before setting off if you’re going to be staying the night.”
