Man who spat at police officer in Gwynedd jailed for 18 weeks
A 44-year-old man from the south Gwynedd area has been jailed for 18 weeks after spitting on a female police officer.
Police revealed earlier today how Stephen Budski from Llanfrothen was taken into custody following calls from concerned residents regarding the behaviour of two people in the street.
He was arrested for public order offences, having become aggressive and threatening towards officers as they approached him. He subsequently assaulted one of the officers by spitting on her.
He was charged with four offences; a public order offence, possession of a controlled drug (cannabis), criminal damage to police property within Caernarfon Custody Suite, and most importantly assaulting an emergency worker.
He was sent to prison after appearing at Mold Magistrates Court this afternoon.
Speaking earlier, District Inspector Matt Geddes said in respect of the assault on the police officer: “This is a truly vile offence at any time, however the current risks associated with Coronavirus make this an even more abhorrent offence which has caused the officer involved a significant amount of distress.”
Only last week, the Director of Public Prosecutions Max Hill QC, said: “Emergency workers are more essential than ever as society comes together to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.”
He added: “Let me be very clear: this is a crime and needs to stop. The CPS stands behind emergency and essential workers and will not hesitate to prosecute anybody who threatens them as they go about their vital duties.”
