A man who travelled from Rotherham to climb Snowdon has been summoned to court after being found asleep in his car.

Police were out on patrol in the early hours of Sunday morning when they came across his vehicle parked in a lay-by close to Tal Y Cafn.

The man admitted he’d made the journey despite being aware of the current firebreak lockdown rules, which prevent non-essential travel to the area.

However, he said he’d decided to do it regardless as he wanted to climb Wales’ highest mountain alone.

North Wales Police said: “This male realised he would receive a frosty reception if caught.

“Male has been reported for summons for breaching COVID legislation and informed he should return home.”
