Man arrested after Rhos-on-Sea police chase involving armed officers and helicopter
A man has been arrested on multiple charges after a police pursuit in the Rhos-on-Sea area.
The chase began officers spotted a black coloured Volvo, which had earlier been reported as stolen, on Conway Road, Mochdre at 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.
Members of North Wales Police’s Roads Policing Unit tried to bring the car to a stop but the driver made off.
Officers then pursued the car through Mochdre, Penrhyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea.
The driver caused minor damage to another vehicle during the pursuit before coming to a stop on Llannerch Road West fleeing the scene on foot.
Following a search – which involved the roads policing unit, drone team, armed response officers, members of the local policing team, police dogs and helicopter – a man was found hiding near to the A55.
A 31-year-old, who is from the Colwyn Bay area, was arrested on suspicion of:
Dangerous driving
Failing to stop for Police
Failing to stop following a collision
Aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle
Failing to provide a sample
Disqualified driving
Driving with no insurance
Possession of a bladed article
Possession of Class A drugs
The man was also wanted on warrant for recall to prison and currently remains in police custody being questioned by officers.
North Wales Police said: “We appreciate yesterday’s pursuit may have caused some alarm in the community, but we hope the arrest provides reassurance to residents that we will respond quickly to such reported incidents.
“Anyone wo saw the Volvo being driven, or any drivers who may have recorded dashcam footage, are urged to contact us by calling 101 or contacting via the live web chat, quoting reference number 23000096229.”
