Future of Debenhams stores in North Wales at risk as rescue talks for a buyer fall through

Around 12,000 jobs are at risk today after talks with a buyer to save Debenhams fell through.

The company, which has 186 stores across the UK including Wrexham, Llandudno and Bangor, entered into administration in April of this year.

Talks for a rescue deal had been taking place with sports retailer JD, however these fell through this morning after the company pulled out.

It is thought that the collapse of Arcadia last night played a part in JD’s decision.

Debenhams now faces an uncertain future, with all stores at risk unless a buyer is found.

In a statement this morning the company’s administrators said Debenhams will continue to trade however a wind-down process will begin unless further offers are made for all parts or some of the business.
