The family of a man who died following a crash near Betws-y-Coed have paid tribute to him.

Mark Pell was a serving paramedic with the London Ambulance Service, having joined in 1994.

He was one of two paramedics from the London Ambulance Service who were on a training course with the North Wales Police Driver Training Unit at the time of the collision, which happened on the A5 shortly before 2.30pm on Thursday, 7 April.

He sadly died on Wednesday, 13 April at Stoke Hospital, after sustaining serious injuries in the collision.

Described by everyone who knew him as a polite, funny, kind and generous person, Mark loved his family and his work dearly.

Mark has also been described as “an absolute legend” and “one of a kind” and would help anyone that needed help, whether that be in his role as a paramedic or when he was off duty helping people with anything they needed.

The family’s tribute read: “Mark was everyone’s friend. He is irreplaceable, his kindness and compassion shined through in everything he did, he has left a huge hole in all our lives that will never be filled.

“He was diligent and professional and will never be forgotten. Words cannot explain how empty his family, friends’ and colleagues’ lives are now that he’s gone.”

The family would like to extend their thanks to members of the London Ambulance Service who supported the family between the day of the collision and Mark’s passing.

Special mention must be given to Rob Bentley from the Motorcycle Response Unit who stayed with the family at Stoke Hospital during this difficult time.

Mark will be forever missed by his family and was an ever-loving son to Roger and Marilyn, caring brother to Sarah, devoted partner to Sarah Jane, brother-in-law to Rob, and caring uncle to his nephews Oliver, Henry and Elliot.

North Wales Police continue to appeal for any information in relation to the collision.

A force statement said: “A full investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of this collision and we appeal to anybody who may have been travelling along the A5 shortly before 2.30pm on Thursday, 7 April, and who may have dashcam footage, to contact officers as soon as possible.

“Anybody with information should contact North Wales Police via the website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 22000239178.”
