Denbighshire Council announces crackdown on dog fouling as owners urged to pick up after pets
Dog owners are being urged to clean up after their pets or face the consequences.
It follows Denbighshire County Council’s public protection team announcing a crackdown on dog fouling in the area.
Officers praised the majority of dog owners, who they said correctly dispose of their pet’s mess.
However, they said there are still a minority of people who don’t, and have pledged to address the matter.
Dog fouling and other failures to keep pets under control are a criminal offence, as well as posing a health risk.
The council said it would deal with the issue seriously.
Gareth Roberts, public protection manager, said: “We are clamping down on individuals who think it is acceptable to leave their dogs business on streets and green spaces within the county to protect our people and out environment.
“Every dog owner can help with the efforts to protect public health and the environment by simply clearing up after their pets.
“If you witness an offender, we would encourage you to report them.
“A big thank you to all responsible pet owners who are already supporting area safety improvements by clearing up after their dogs.”
All dog waste should be collected immediately and disposed of in a public litter bin.
Officers will be patrolling areas throughout the county and will continue to hand out fixed penalty notices to fine those who fail to clear their pet’s mess.
The council has also reminded the public that they can provide witness statements about any incidents of dog fouling that they observe, which can be used to help prosecute offenders.
